RMS Has Talent!

What a wonderful showcase of talent! The Festival of the Arts (FOTA) is a dazzling display of visual arts, song, dance, and drama. Even though the academic life of many students takes priority, we find that within each student lays an artist. The sometimes hidden talents of RMS students truly shine during this annual event.

The hallways of the school come alive as students prepare original masterpieces, or apply their own creativity to an existing art form. Colours and shapes of beautifully constructed art work adorn bulletin boards and hang from the ceilings.

The vocal arrangements and musical talents of aspiring performers fill the air with melodies. The free flowing and graceful movements of young dancers inspire even the teachers to dance! After weeks of practice and preparation, the final product is an amazing show over two evenings in February, packed with the talents and hard work of RMS students. The Festival of the Arts is more than just a talent show; it’s a glimpse into the possible future of Canada’s next shining stars!

Practice Makes Perfect! Talent Abounds!

Since the return to school after the Family Day long weekend, the students have been adding their final touches to their performances for the Festival of the Arts.

The audition process allowed staff to see a short snippet of the exciting acts that could potentially steal the show during the star-studded (because really, any student willing to get up on stage in front of the entire school deserves to be called a star!) event.

Each and every student spent recess upon recess, and likely lots of home time too, fine tuning their acts, working out the kinks and refining their performances down to the very last flick of the wrist or high note they knew they had to nail.

Auditions were an exciting and thrilling event, with all students cheering on their peers. This year, the audition process welcomed a stellar 36 acts, each and every one special in their own right. We are eagerly awaiting the final performances with baited breath!

RMS Choirs singing National Anthems at Brampton Beast game

Students are thrilled about the opportunity to sing the Canadian National Anthem and the American National Anthem.

Our RMS Junior and Senior choirs (Grades 1-8 Students from the RMS Academy) will be singing the Canadian National Anthem and the American National Anthem for the Brampton Beast ECHL game.

We feel that this is an exciting opportunity for our choirs and think it would be wonderful to have many children and families join the large representation of RMS students and their families attending the game, particularly since this is the first year our choir is performing for the Brampton Beast Hockey Team. Would it not be great to have a sell-out crowd present? Imagine the lifetime memory that would be for these choir members. Our choirs and the Brampton Beast Hockey team would appreciate all of the support! Our choirs previously performed the National Anthem for the Brampton A’s Basketball game last year, as well as the OHL Brampton Battalion and Mississauga Steelheads hockey games.

The game is against the Elmira Jackals at home at the Powerade Centre on Sunday November 29^th, 2015 at 2:00pm. The Powerade Centre is located at 7575 Kennedy Road South, Brampton.

RMS Festival of the Arts 2015 – Huge Success!

Rowntree Montessori Schools’ Academy hosted its 9^th annual Festival of the Arts on February 17-19, 2015. Over the three days, students’ art work was on display throughout the hallways. All students from Grades 1-8 participated in an art competition. Anonymous judges from outside the RMS community with an artistic background were invited to judge the pieces and award ribbons. Parents were delighted by all the artistic talent on display. Well done, everyone!

In addition to the art show, audiences were treated to an array of student-created performances at the Festival of the Arts Talent evenings. The show was filled with singing, dancing, instrumental pieces, and drama skits by students from Grades 2-8. Even the teachers showed their school spirit with a dance routine of their own.

Don’t miss our 2015 Festival of the Arts

“We are all born artists. … Almost everything kids do is art.”

With pride Rowntree Montessori Schools instituted the Festival of the Arts in 2007. Ever since its inception, the festival has been and continues to be a cherished and highly anticipated event by the RMS teachers, parents and most importantly the students. Our students showcase their talents in a number of art forms, whether it be singing, dancing, playing an instrument, drawing or painting. No matter the medium, they have made themselves, their parents, and their school proud of their achievements. The festival has not only motivated our students to put their best visual art work forward but it also given them the opportunity to perform their talent with their fellow students for a large audience, all while developing their confidence and self-esteem. It has encouraged them to dig deeply into a number of hidden talents. Who knows? Maybe some day they will be the Pavarotti, Picasso, or even the Gene Kelly of the 21^st century!

The RMS Academy’s Ninth Annual Festival of the Arts begins on Tuesday February 17 and wraps up on Thursday February 19. During the three days of the Festival of the Arts, the Grade 1-8 students’ pieces of art are on display.

These works of visual art are then judged by anonymous judges from outside the RMS community which keeps the friendly spirit of the Festival fair for all of our artistic participants. Naturally, parents and guests are invited and encouraged to visit the Festival and enjoy the great work being done by their children as well as take in the performances of the Festival of the Arts Evening Talent Show.

The Festival of the Arts Evening Talent Show will take place on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 starting at 6:00pm and will be repeated on Thursday, February 19, 2015 starting at 6:00pm. The evening show will feature our talented students from Grades 2 – 8 and will include a variety of acts such as vocal performances, choral performances, instrumental group and soloists performances, dance performances as well as skits and stunts. Our performers have all auditioned for the evening show and have been preparing tirelessly. The show will begin on both nights at 6:00 pm and is scheduled to conclude around 8:00 pm.

Our teachers, in particular our Art and Music teachers, are proud to invite all of our wonderful and supporting parents. Parents, other family members, students accompanied by their parents, and members of the public are all very welcome!

Prospective parents and students are particularly encouraged to attend the Festival of the Arts Evening Talent Show. Admission is free and we are looking forward to seeing you, supporting our budding artists and applauding our students and teachers! Rowntree Montessori Schools’ (RMS) Academy campus is located at 3 Sunforest Drive, Brampton, Ontario in the northeast corner of Sunforest Drive and Bovaird Drive.
