Rowntree Montessori School in Brampton offers a variety of carefully designed programmes in the areas of Health, Physical Education and Sports.
The objective is to promote a healthy, active lifestyle by systematic participation and enjoyment of physical activity.
- Pre-School and Kindergarten: The Physical Education programme emphasizes the development of gross and fine motor skills which are the building blocks for progression along the developmental continuum. Teachers encourages students to participate daily in a range of engaging, developmentally appropriate, physical activities.
- All Grades: The programme focuses on a variety of strands to encourage the enjoyment of Active living, Movement Competencies, Skills and Strategies, as well as Healthy Living. These strands include, but are not limited to the development of Active Participation, Safety Awareness, and Fundamental Movement Skills which include locomotion, stability and manipulation. Several components of the curriculum provide an opportunity for students to engage in physical activities for the improvement of their personal fitness, the acquisition of knowledge and the development of sport skills
- Health Program (All levels starting with Kindergarten and going up): Along with the Physical Education component of the curriculum, the students are well-educated in a Healthy Living element. The students learn a variety of lessons in Healthy Eating, Personal Safety and Prevention, Substance Use, Addictions and Behaviours, and Growth and Development.
- Extra-Curricular: Rowntree Montessori Schools provide students with fun and organized activities. Among others they participate in: intramurals, mini-olympics, team sports, and school-wide events (such as the Terry Fox Run and Jump Rope for Heart), which further their experience at the academy.
- Daily Physical Activity (DPA): On a daily basis, the students participate in activities during recess and within their lessons to further promote active living. Integrating physical activities into the students’ everyday routine is a great way to encourage enthusiasm for an active lifestyle.
