In Grade 8 geography, one of the many topics that our students learn about is wealth disparity around the world and fair trade. After a series of lectures where students explored fair trade using different websites and by watching videos, students created a media campaign to demonstrate their understanding of this topic. Students created a poster, a brochure and a video to bring awareness of the fair trade system.
This is a perfect example of Cross-Curriculum teaching and learning and how it is incorporated at Rowntree Montessori Schools. Our grade 8 students completed assignments using the language (media and writing) curriculum as well as the geography curriculum. In addition to this, students learned how to develop a media campaign, usual their creativity skills, and also designed a video, using 21st Century Learning. This lesson was all tied back to a real world issue, which makes learning much more interesting and relevant to our students.
