Our AHA! Moments take place in our classrooms, every day!
This past December, all of the Rowntree Montessori students at the Academy Campus participated in the 2019 Hour of Code with the theme of ‘Urbanization’. The Kindergarten Montessori and Prep-One (Senior Kindergarten) students worked on an unplugged worksheet where they created a sequence of arrows to help solve big city problems. The grade 1 through 4 students were asked to create a Public Service Announcement (PSA) using a block-based programming language on Scratch. While the grade 5 and 6 students approached this task through a fun online coding platform called Codester.com.
Keeping in line with the Montessori approach, the intermediate students supported the primary and junior students through the Hour of Code. The children were then guided to make free and intelligent choices. Integrating coding activities with the concept of PSAs helps students understand how they can use computer science to help the planet. #CSforGood
