Nurturing Tomorrow’s Achievers Since 1969
Our AHA! Moments take place in our classrooms, every day!
Grade 8 student, Amar D., recently enlightened his class about what has led to the Amazon rainforest fires, and what global environmental activists are doing to stop it.
During this Social Studies lesson, Amar cultivated a culture of environmental awareness for his classmates which, in turn, led to a classroom discussion on how we can combat the Amazon Rainforest fires. Specifically, the class used the 6-step Engineering Design Process to come up with some solutions. The 6-steps in the Engineering Design Process include: Ask, Imagine, Plan, Create, Experiment, and Improve.
The grade 8 discussion fits into the broader context of climate change, and the threat that these fires have on the speeding up of climate change. Rowntree Montessori Schools strongly supports cross-curricular teaching practices and the 6-step Engineering Design process.
