Our students from all campuses recently participated in our yearly Spring Concerts at the Lester B. Pearson Memorial Theatre. The theatre was full of parents who enjoyed watching their children from all campuses participate in song and dance, while expressing their creativity and love for stage performance. This is a unique set of concerts at RMS, because all students from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 6 participate. Thus children of many ages have the chance to dance, learn music and express themselves. All students did an excellent job at entertaining everyone at the spring concerts! We are sure there were many laughs and even tears, as our Prep-One students from the campuses also completed their graduation ceremonies. We are very proud of our students for all of the hard work and dedication that went into preparing for the spring concerts, and thank our teachers for offering the necessary guidance to successfully complete each performance. As teachers, we see how beneficial a well-rounded education that includes music can be! Music can increase a student’s focus and body awareness. It encourages students to interact, and allows children in all grades to develop higher self-esteem. Students in our kindergarten classrooms are exposed to many rhymes and children’s songs with different beats and rhythms. They enjoy playing instruments, such as the xylophone, drums, maracas, and the tambourine. Because of this, they are able to identify basic instruments not only by appearance, but also by how they sound. During our music time, they enjoy playing Musical Chairs and Freeze Dance. They respond to the beats and rhythms of the music. They are able to distinguish qualities of music and sound, such as “loud” or “soft” and “fast” or “slow”. Overall, it plays an important role in a well-rounded education. Thus we understand the important role music can play in a child’s life, and we will continue to nurture it at RMS. We also thank all of our families who selected us as a Top Chpoie Award receipient this year. The image below shows a young student wearing a black t-shirt showcasing “Toppy” the Top Choice Award mascot. We wanted to showcase “Toppy” in our performances this year to showcase how proud we are of the award, and how thankful we are to the many families who support us! We look forward to seeing you and sharing with you the private school community of which we are so proud!
