Healthy nutrition is a vital ingredient in a successful well-rounded education! As parents and educators, we know how difficult it can be to provide our students and children with healthy meals and snacks every day. So, our teachers found some useful resources to support our RMS families this Spring. Click here or on the photo below to watch a short video outlining some very quick and healthy recipes you can make for your child’s school lunches.
According to many health professionals, eating well-balanced, properly portioned meals not only leads to greater academic performance, but is an important element in learning how to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Click here for information on how much food in each category your child needs to eat every day, supplied by Canada’s Food Guide.
Health Canada also recommends that parents offer their children a variety of foods from the four food groups (vegetables and fruit, grain products, milk and alternatives, meat and alternatives). They also highlight the importance of providing adequate water, plus milk to help meet vitamin D requirements. Health Canada provides additional advice on how to properly support a healthy diet, by being a good role model, and organizing fun physical activities. Eat Right Ontario highlights how valuable cooking with children can be in helping them learn how to prepare a healthy lifestyle and foster healthy eating habits from a young age. Click here for tips and tricks on how to cook with your child.
Sick Kids Hospital also offers a great list of additional resources for building healthy lifestyles into your family. Click here to review a list of additional support resources.
This spring we encourage our families to eat right and get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. Take a walk with your child, enjoy a bicycle ride or play a game of catch! Together we can all better the learning experience for our students and help shape their minds in a well-rounded manner.
We look forward to seeing you and sharing with you the private school community of which we are so proud!
