Many children have a good idea of what bullying is because they see it every day. Bullying happens when someone hurts or scares another person on purpose. The person being bullied may have a difficult time defending themselves. It is important that everyone gets involved to help prevent and stop bullying from happening.
At RMS, our students learn about bullying and learn about the different tools that will provide them with ways to deal with bullying. Students are always encouraged to speak with their teachers when they feel bullying is occurring. All RMS students learn that bullying is wrong! It is a behaviour that makes the person being bullied feel afraid or uncomfortable. There are many ways that young people bully each other, even if they don’t realize it at the time. Some of these include:
- Punching, shoving and other acts that hurt people physically
- Spreading bad rumours about people
- Keeping certain people out of a group
- Teasing people in a mean way
- Getting certain people to “gang up” on others
In this Bullying Re-Enactment video created by two of RMS’ Mayfield Campus Pre-Kindergarten and Senior Kindergarten students, the children demonstrate examples of bullying and provide advice to students on how to ask for help.
