One of the main reasons we teach students about adjectives is so that they can use them to add details and description to their writing. Once students understand what adjectives are and are able to develop some examples, we can help them learn how to model and use describing words in writing.
If students are writing narratives, we can demonstrate how to add adjectives to describe things such as characters, a setting or an important object in a story.
If students are writing informational or non-fiction pieces, we can teach them how to use adjectives to describe an animal, a plant, or even the ingredients or materials needed to build something.
If students are writing opinion pieces, we can teach them how to add adjectives to convey their opinion, describe a scene, a toy, a restaurant or a movie.
Last week, our grade four students learned about all adjectives. At RMS, we try to incorporate digital learning with traditional learning, as much as possible. Our grade 4s used Google slides and created an Adobe Spark video to show off their work on our Adjectives are Awesome unit.
