On Friday, May 1st, Rowntree’s staff and students took a vow to be silent, and by not saying anything at all, we managed to say a lot! We said that we are aware, that we care, and that we will not sit idly by while injustice occurs all around us!
Our participation in Free the Children’s Vow of Silence allowed us to experience first hand what it means to be voiceless, to have much to say but no means or validity for expression. Silently, together in solidarity, we stood up for those whose voices are silenced – for those children around the world and here at home who are victimized in a myriad of ways and denied some, or all of their basic human rights. More specifically, we were silent for the 58 million children around the world who are denied an education.
The pledge money raised totaled $783.25, and was added to our Me to We Brick by Brick campaign, helping to bring us nearer to our annual monetary goal of $10,000 and the construction of our school in Kenya.
Congratulations Rowntree staff and students for engaging in this very important social justice action!
We look forward to seeing you and sharing with you the private school community of which we are so proud!
