Soon, the new school year will be upon us. Your child will be walking out the door; holding your hand very tightly. You will be saying all of the right things; hoping that his or her day will be tearless…and that yours will be too!
It is very hard to trust that a school will be able to meet your child’s needs. Although, having been part of the expert staff at Rowntree Montessori Schools, I can tell you with unwavering confidence that all members of our teaching and administrative team will, without fail, look to your child as the individual he/she is.
A new class of students is not just new faces, but an esteemed opportunity for us to put into practice the professional knowledge and skills that we have acquired and honed through the years to welcome each individual child with a warm smile and an open mind. It is not just time for us to draw on our teaching skills, but also a time to make sure that your child is comfortable, in a caring and safe community of learners, each morning when he or she leaves your care, and becomes part of our school family.
We are very lucky at Rowntree; not only do we have great teachers, office staff, principals, vice principals, and caring active owners, but we have a safe and loving environment. Each child takes the necessary step towards being part of a school community, and Rowntree is a school that will help nurture your child’s mind, character, manners and social skills while always making sure that the day is full of teaching and learning experiences which foster excitement and wonder.
Each child is an individual, and therefore we do not expect (nor would we wish for) each child to be the same. Each child has his or her own unique learning profile including: readiness levels, learning needs, and areas of interest. We make it a priority to differentiate the content, instructional strategies, assessments, and evaluations to adapt our teaching to meet each learner’s individual needs as we grapple with the curriculum.
It is very difficult for a young child to leave the security and comfort of home and trust new, unfamiliar surroundings. For this reason, we love to see new students take part in our summer camp. This gives the child a chance to feel comfortable in a new environment, and feel at ease with the staff here at Rowntree prior to September.
So, as the summer comes to an end, and that first day of school approaches, I look forward to welcoming you and your child with an open mind and an open heart. Enjoy the rest of the summer, and I’ll see you soon.
