Building an awareness of the world around us and the needs of others is a fundamental part of the Rowntree Montessori Schools philosophy. So far, during this Academic year RMS has participated in multiple fundraising initiatives that have raised thousands of dollars for charities and various causes. This helps us instill important values in our students and offers them a well-rounded education.
As part of our work with the Me to We initiative in association with the Free the Children charitable fundraising foundation, our students at the Academy campus were responsible for raising over $3400 during our most recent dance-a-thon. They also raised funds for the Terry Fox Cancer foundation as part of our 5th Annual Toonies for Terry Walk-for-Cancer campaign, which raised over $600. RMS students have also raised over $600 for Breast Cancer Research during our Pink and White Day, where students were able to dress down and were encouraged to wear pink and white. During the colder weather, students and staff collected over 280 pairs of mittens, scarves and hats for the Salvation Army, as we strive to support children and families in need during the cold winter season.
In addition to fundraising, our students also wanted to spread holiday cheer to as many people in the community as possible. For example, our Downtown Campus Grade 1 and 2 students had the opportunity to visit the Peel Division 22 Police Station to help decorate their Christmas Tree with homemade ornaments and sing Christmas Carols. They also visited the Tullamore Care Community Centre where they played piano and sang songs for the residents of the nursing home. Each of our Preparatory Campuses this season has made sure to support the local community through toy collection, mitten donation and by visiting nursing homes to spread joy and laughter. We wish all the families in Brampton a safe and happy holiday season, and hope that everyone continues to spread cheer and help our community this winter and into 2018!
