Rowntree Montessori School challenges its students towards Academic Excellence while developing the whole-child. We welcome all student applications regardless of academic level, learning styles or previous private school attendance.
We do not administer entrance exams, however, through the Admissions process, each student will be assessed through one or more of the following in order for the school to make an informed Admissions decision: observation, interview, more formal assessment.
Rowntree Montessori School actively challenges students to demonstrate academic success and to develop the skills necessary to become personally successful, socially co-operative, and actively engaged citizens. The school is not intended to, and may not, serve all prospective students equally well. To ensure and to maximize the achievement of academic success and the development of emotional and social skills for all of its students, Rowntree Montessori School restricts student admissions to only those students who already demonstrate all of the following:
- the knowledge and ability necessary to achieve academic success;
- an independently-motivated work ethic to enthusiastically achieve such academic success; and
- the well-developed emotional (intra-personal) and social (inter- personal) skills necessary to become personally successful, socially co-operative, and actively engaged
Family participation in academic activities to ensure academic success as well as family support and promotion of an ongoing harmonious school environment are both critically essential to ensure optimal student success. Accordingly, student admissions are equally conditional upon all custodial parents demonstrating such participation, support, and promotion. To ensure ongoing student success, students and families must re-apply and be re-assessed annually, for re-admission.
Acceptance into our programmes will be finalized after interviews and possibly other assessments. These initial assessments facilitate the individualized tailoring of the programme to meet the cognitive (learning, academic) needs of each child.
At Rowntree Montessori Schools, a student’s placement is based on an assessment of his/her stage of development and learning capabilities rather than solely on his/her age.
The students are promoted from one level to the next whenever the outcome of the ongoing assessment shows that all the standards and objectives of the present level are met. The final decision is made in close consultation with the parents and is monitored by the Director of Education.
This child-centered, individualized approach to evaluation and promotion makes full use of the child’s learning capabilities and leads to advanced academic performance and possible accelerated placement of a student.
