The Montessori Programme blends child-centered and teacher-directed learning, offering academic and social challenges for children turning four. Small class sizes and dedicated teacher support allow each child to progress at their own pace, with ongoing communication between home and school.
Through Montessori activities and structured lessons, students build confidence, develop new skills, and explore the world in a safe, nurturing environment.
Rowntree Education
Our program sets the foundation for future academic success by developing confidence, enthusiasm for learning, and strong social and problem-solving skills. The curriculum blends Ministry expectations with the Montessori approach, integrating activities that refine independence and support each child’s continued academic growth.
Oral Language Skills
Oral language is developed through daily sharing, singing, rhymes, poetry, and class discussions that strengthen speaking, listening, and vocabulary. Montessori materials like the Small Movable Alphabet and pink boxes help students build phonetic awareness and form words.
Beginning Reading Skills
Reading skills are developed through phonics lessons, guided readers, and teacher read-alouds supported by the Readers Express Programme. Students practice letter sounds, sight words, and comprehension using the Reading Centre, Montessori materials, and interactive tools like Dash & Dot Robots.
Mathematical Skills
Mathematical understanding is built through hands-on activities such as counting, sorting, measuring, and problem-solving. Montessori materials including the Abacus, Spindle Box, and Ten and Teens Boards reinforce number concepts through engaging, practical lessons.
Fine Motor Skills
Fine motor development is strengthened through creative, tactile experiences such as arts and crafts, cutting, drawing, puzzles, and manipulating small objects. These activities build coordination, control, and readiness for writing and classroom tasks.
Inspired Discovery
The Montessori Method
At RMS, we emphasize hands-on, self-paced learning that nurtures independence, curiosity, and a love of discovery.
Practical Life
Practical Life exercises help children develop mental and physical self-control while fostering independence. They practice tasks like preparing snacks, tying, pouring, and caring for themselves, others, and their environment. This type of learning supports their natural desire for order and responsibility.
Sensorial
An extensive number of sensorial materials help to enhance the child’s understanding of their physical environment through the manipulation of materials which isolate certain aspects of that environment, such as colour, sound, taste, smell, touch and spatial relationships.
Language
Language development begins at birth as children absorb spoken words. In the Montessori environment, Sandpaper Letters help them connect sounds to letters through sight and touch, while reading and writing emerge naturally from their experiences.
Math
The use of manipulative materials enables the child to internalize concepts of numbers, symbols, sequence, operations, and memorization of basic facts. These hands-on experiences help students develop a deep, intuitive understanding of mathematical thinking and problem-solving.
Culture
Children are introduced to the basics of geography, history, life sciences, earth sciences, music, art, and movement. Through exploration and creative expression, they gain a broader awareness of the world and an appreciation for its diversity.
