The Rowntree Montessori Schools environment for Preschoolers is comfortable, safe, nurturing and familiar to the young child. Children feel at ease and can enjoy a confident, productive beginning of their school years when they are in an environment, which is like an extension of their home lives. Teachers work with close parent consultation to ensure the child is happy in his/her new environment. Our teachers are sensitive to the needs of all children, recognizing that they are continually growing, working and absorbing the world around them. Emphasis is placed on the total child development, guiding the child towards becoming self-reliant and emotionally stable. We provide a warm, nurturing, stimulating yet flexible environment, which fosters independence and is responsive to the child’s emotional, social and physical needs. Throughout the programme, children are given opportunities to enhance their vocabulary as well as their physical, emotional and intellectual growth. Children will learn from active exploration, interaction with adults and other children as well as using the various Montessori apparatuses in the different developmental areas.
Our learning programme is planned around cognitive “themes” e.g. numbers, the alphabet, shapes, colours, animals, holidays etc. This is facilitated through exploration, circle time, art, music, stories, sensory activities, dramatic play and introduction to work-on-books. The pre-school curriculum covers age-appropriate Practical Life Exercises, Sensorial Activities, Language Arts, Mathematics, Arts, Music, and Physical Education.
